21/03/2008Man sets himself alight at Tibet vigil in Germany

The man poured a flammable liquid over himself and set it alight during the vigil near the Chinese embassy attended by some 100 people.

Berlin -- A 26-year-old man set himself alight Thursday evening at a protest in Berlin against China's policies in Tibet, but he was only slightly injured, police reported.

The man poured a flammable liquid over himself and set it alight during the vigil near the Chinese embassy attended by some 100 people.

Bystanders were able to put out his burning clothes.

Three protestors had tried earlier to hand over a petition to the Chinese ambassador, without success.

Police arrested the man for violating the law on assembly. Bringing flammable liquids to a protest was illegal, the police said.

A pitiful way to protest but, unfortunately, it will not make the governments of the EU or USA recognise the problems in China. It is up to the ATHELETES to NOT ATTEND the "games" in communist China. To do so will not only endanger the athletes' health (china's environment is highly dangerous and cancerous due to the communist ruination of the environment) but also emboldens the police state system which kills, exploits, and imprisons minorities, 'prisoners', ethnic minorities, other countries, and the environoment. China also supports radical Islamic terrorism, despotic regimes, etc like the genocide in Sudan, Darfur, Burma, etc. And, lastly, the invasion, occupation, cultural/environmental genocide of Tibet and other provinces. Mao also LOVED to kill HAN people by the way, and the current government will allow exploitation/killing/moving/torture of their own ethnic HAN chinese.

The publicity for Tibet is fine, but why is there not such OPEN outrage at other Governments. Israel is guilty of Palestinian genocide. But that is a relatively quiet issue due to EU-US-Israel relations. Besides a games boycott in China, why don't investors like Walmart pull out. LOL Profit over people. That's why.
