19/05/2008Anderlecht claims Belgian Cup

After coming in second in the first division league, the vice champions beat AA Gent in the Belgian Cup finals by 3-2.

19 May 2008

BELGIUM – Anderlecht have won the Belgian Cup. The vice champions in first division football beat AA Gent in the finals by 3-2 on Sunday.

AA Gent opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a goal by Dominic Foley. But just one minute later Polak came with an equaliser, and it remained on equal footing almost up to half-time.

Adekamni Olufade put Gent ahead again, and it looked hopeful for the visiting team with a 1-2 lead going into half-time.

But Anderlecht were determined not to come in second again this season and rallied with goals from Mbark Bousoufa and Guillaume Gillet in the last 20 minutes at the King Boudewijn Stadium.

Anderlecht had last won the Belgian Cup in 1994. This season Anderlecht finished second behind Standard de Liège in the Belgian first division league.
