27/10/2009Three police officers injured every day in Belgium

In Belgium, three police officers are injured every day, due to violent attacks in the course of their duty, according to figures released by the association representing the civil service.

“And, more and more, agents are suffering serious assault,” the association claimed in Het Laatste Nieuws.

The association statement goes on to explain that knife attacks used to be the exception but now almost all young gang members carry a knife, or a even a gun, and police officers are increasingly the victims.  They are demanding that the authorities urgently put more police officers on the streets.

“The country needs a further 2,500 officers, the equivalent of the entire squad in Antwerp.”
