13/09/2011Innovation: OECD Global Forum on the Knowledge Economy

To help policy makers and business leaders understand how the economic crisis will change the Knowledge Economy and to improve international co-operation and collaboration, the OECD is holding a Global Forum in Paris on 12 and 13 September 2011.

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría will open the Forum at 09.30 a.m. on Monday 12 September.

Participants include:

Hon David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science, United Kingdom;

Dr. John Thomson, Vice President of Strategic R&D Networks, Vertex Pharmaceutical Inc;

Mr. Liu Yanhua, Counsellor to the State Council, former Vice Minister of Science and Technology, China;

Prof. Anil K. Gupta, Professor,Indian Institute of Management, Founder, Honey Bee Network, Executive Vice Chair, National Innovation Foundation, India; and

Dr. Thane Kreiner, Executive Director, Center for Science, Technology, and Society, Santa Clara University.


Day One, “Improving national science and innovation policies,” will focus on issues including: how to achieve more with less; strengthening knowledge exchange between science and industry; boosting entrepreneurship and seizing opportunities for green innovation. A new OECD report will be released during the event, “Fostering Innovation for Green Growth”, which analyses the current state of green innovation and recommends ways that governments can help business drive green growth.

Day Two, “Science and innovation for inclusive development,” will focus on: new opportunities in emerging and developing economies; applying innovation to the needs of the poorest; strengthening international co-operation; and sharing innovations.
