Belgium meets international development goal

The Belgian International Development Minister Charles Michel (Francophone liberal) broke the news during his speech to Belgian diplomats visiting Brussels.

Belgium’s international development budget now stands at 1.5 billion euros.

As recently as 2007 Belgium only spent 850 million euros on international development.

Mr Michel told diplomats that Belgium had at long last earned its membership of the 0.7 Group.

Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark and Norway are among the European nations that also spend at least 0.7% of their national output on international development.
