What exactly happened remains unclear, but the incident is believed to be a family tragedy.
The children are aged 2, 4 and 6. Their mother was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
A police investigation still has to establish exactly what happened, but it is thought that the 36-year-old mother first killed the children before attempting to commit suicide.
The bodies of the dead children were discovered at around 1:30 PM on Wednesday. Police had earlier been alerted by a caller who said that three children had been found dead at a home in the city.
The woman’s husband is thought to have been at work at the time of the killings. A neighbour told VRT News that this was not a family that had problems.
The couple had five children in all.
