26/11/2009Line-up of new Belgian PM's coalition government

The government of new Belgian prime minister Yves Leterme, named for the post on Wednesday, is almost a carbon copy of the one of his predecessor with only one new face in the line-up.

BRUSSELS - Leterme was appointed prime minister after Herman Van Rompuy last week became president of the European Union.

In the most significant change, Leterme's own previous portfolio of foreign affairs was given to former public affairs minister, Flemish Christian Democrat Steven Vanackere.

Vanackere's post was filled by newcomer Inge Vervotte, from the same party.

The government is a coalition of five parties, two of them from Dutch-speaking Flanders to the north and three from francophone Wallonia.
