10/05/2009Green EU election profiler website launched

The Netherlands Society for Nature and Environment has launched a European election profiling website specifically focused on nature and the environment.

THE NETHERLANDS - The Netherlands Society for Nature and Environment has launched a European election profiling website specifically focused on nature and the environment. Visitors to groenekieswijzer.nl can fill in their responses to statements on issues ranging from nuclear power to animal welfare.

The website then indicates which political party programme corresponds most closely to their views. All parties cooperated with the profiler apart from the rightwing populist Freedom Party.

The Society for Nature and Environment compiled the profiler because most environmental legislation is made at European Union level.

At the website euprofiler.eu, voters can assess how their views match those of all the political parties fielding candidates in the EU elections.

The website covers a full spectrum of issues and offers a choice of country and language. English speakers can therefore compare their attitudes with the positions of Dutch political parties.

EU citizens living in the Netherlands are entitled to vote either here or in their country of origin.
