Ivo Carmen of the public prosecutor's office of Leuven announced during a short press conference this morning that Ronald Janssen had confessed over the weekend to the murder of the 18 year old Annick Van Uytsel in 2007.
The suspect was taken into police custody last week for the double murder of Shana Appeltans (18) and Kevin Paulus (22) the day after New Year's. During the weekend Ronald Janssen was questioned regarding the murder of Annick Van Uytsel in 2007.
The investigating magistrate of Leuven said there were serious indications that he was involved in the murder of the 18 year old girl from Diest.
Het Nieuwsblad "Ronald Janssen has confessed to the investigators, and to the investigating magistrate," said Ivo Carmen.
"During the investigation into the murder of Annick Van Uytsel all leads were investigated thoroughly," Ivo Carmen stressed .
"The potential involvement of the 38 year-old man from Loksbergen (Limburg) was not followed through, because we did not know what we now know. No one in his immediate surroundings had even the least suspicion that he was capable of doing something like this."
