The United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF held an interesting event in Brussels to focus attention on the fact that acute water shortages in various places of the world take children's lives daily. 756 people waited in line to use a loo in Brussels. This was the longest line ever for a visit to the loo.

Sunday was World Water Day and UNICEF drew attention to acute water scarcity in many parts of the world. Every day an estimated 5,000 children under the age of five die because they do not have access to clean water.

The Belgian astronaut Frank Dewinne is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and gave his full support to the action. "In outer space we need clean water and good hygiene, because we live in such a small space. So the necessity for enough clean water on board a space shuttle or at a space station is easy to understand," explains Frank Dewinne.
