Bilingual schools in France 13/09/2006 00:00
The choice of school for your bilingual, bicultural child depends on a long list of factors, including their general scholastic aptitude, the length of your stay in France, plus your address and your budget. Here is a selection of well-known schools from ages 2-18, plus where to get more information.
French public schools offer a generally high level of instruction and many children integrate perfectly well into the French-only classroom.
But there are also many reasons to opt for bilingual education, including the need to keep your child on a curriculum comparable to what they'll return to in your home country or simply because you want them to socialise with other international children like themselves.
For many, an international section in a French public school is a good compromise; while the French curriculum is state-funded, some international sections are tuition-based. See our Guide to the French education system for more explanation.
