While Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the 2014 Fifa World Cup, they did provide one of South Africa's sporting highlights of 2013 when they conjured up a first ever victory over a world number one ranked team, beating world and European champions Spain 1-0 in Johannesburg in November.
