A South African court on Monday approved the extradition of convicted British fraudster and drug dealer Martin Evans, described as one of Britain’s most-wanted men.
Police spokesman Solomon Makgale said a court in Johannesburg had found Evans, who had been on the run for three years, “to be extraditable”.
Makgale said he could not give a date for the extradition due to security concerns.
Evans, 52, from Swansea in Wales, was arrested on Saturday in a house north of Johannesburg.
He had been described by South African police as “one of the United Kingdom’s most-wanted fugitives”.
Police said Evans was found with a fake Cypriot passport.
A once-successful businessman, Evans was serving a 21-year jail term for drugs smuggling when in 2011 he failed to return to a British prison after release on a five-day leave.
