News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch arrived in London on Sunday on the day his News of the World newspaper was published for the last time amid the phone-hacking scandal, a company source said.

Sky News television reported that he had headed to the east London offices of News International, his British newspaper publisher that used to produce the News of the World.

Murdoch flew into the British capital to take personal charge in trying to limit the fallout from the phone-hacking scandal that prompted him to close Britain's biggest-selling weekly paper.

The media baron, 80, has condemned as "deplorable and unacceptable" the allegations that the paper hacked into mobile phones of relatives of murdered children and victims of the London bombings.

The scandal has raised fresh questions about News Corp.'s bid to take full control of pay-TV giant BSkyB, which the British government is due to decide on.

News of the World hit newsstands for the last time Sunday with the headline "Thank You and Goodbye."
