European stock markets diverge at open

Europe's main stock markets diverged at the start of trading on Thursday, with London rising and eurozone indices down.

London's benchmark FTSE 100 index edged up almost 0.1 percent to 7,473.73 compared with the closing level on Wednesday.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 index fell around 0.2 percent to 12,950.18 points and the Paris CAC 40 lost 0.1 percent 5,355.91.

Madrid's IBEX index, which had fallen by nearly three percent on Wednesday amid deepening worries about the Catalan independence crisis, was back in positive territory on Thursday, showing a gain of 0.8 percent at 10,043.10 points at around 0730 GMT.
