Cameron arrives at White House

British Prime Minister David Cameron arrived at the White House on Tuesday for three hours of talks with President Barack Obama, which are the highlight of his first official Washington visit.

Cameron arrived outside the West Wing of the White House in a US government limousine, flying US and British flags.

His visit was at risk of being overshadowed by a row over the freed Lockerbie bomber and the political fallout of the BP oil spill.

Cameron and Obama were also expected to discuss, and fiercely defend, US and British strategy in the Afghan war amid skepticism about NATO withdrawal plans.

Obama was rolling out the full White House treatment for Cameron, with Oval Office talks, a working lunch and an East Room press conference, after being accused of dealing brusquely with former British leader Gordon Brown last year.
