A Brazilian reporter who went missing in Libya along with a journalist from Britain's Guardian newspaper has been detained west of Tripoli, his employer, O Estado de Sao Paulo, said Thursday.

The newspaper said in a statement posted on its website that it last had direct contact with reporter Andrei Netto on Sunday.

Netto, who is based in Paris and has been covering the Libyan uprising, "has been detained west of the capital Tripoli," the statement read. "The Brazilian embassy is taking measures to release him," it added.
