British economy grows 0.3 percent in first quarter: official

Britain's economy grew by a stronger-than-expected 0.3 percent in the first quarter of the year compared with the previous three months, official data showed Tuesday.

The Office for National Statistics said in a statement that it revised up its estimate for gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the first quarter of 2010. The initial estimate given last month was for 0.2-percent expansion.
