Let me tell you about the role
Morven is the new offshore wind project being developed by bp and EnBW off the East Coast of Scotland. The multi-billion pound development has a potential generating capacity of around 2.9 gigawatt (GW) – enough to power more than 3 million homes. The wind farm will be located around 60km off the coast of Aberdeen, and will be developed as a fixed-bottom project.
The Project is part of the wider Offshore UK Wind Program (Mona / Morgan/Morven). These offshore wind developments play a material part in supporting the UK Government's target of producing sufficient offshore wind energy to power every UK home by the end of this decade.
bp have formed a 50/50 JV partnership with Hamburg based EnBW in delivery of the UK Offshore Wind programme.
The foundation Engineer plays a key role in delivering this complex offshore project. The role will be responsible the engineering for the wind turbine generator foundations and supporting structures as well as providing guidance and input into transport and installation requirements, and interfaces with WTGs and execution activities.
What you will deliver
The role is accountable for:
Leading the design and analysis, fabrication, and installation of Wind Turbine Generator foundation structures.
Ensuring safe and cost efficient design and operation throughout asset life.
Ensuring the integrity management of producing assets.
Ensuring design and operations are in accordance with relevant technical practices and performance standards.
Quantifying and communicating risk to relevant stakeholders.
Oversight and relationship management of third party suppliers and contractors.
Communicate risks and opportunities for improved personal and asset performance.
Understanding and contribution to bp's purpose and ambitions (reinventing energy for people & planet) and influencing through the Joint venture
Participate in mentoring and coaching by actively sharing your expertise and experience with team members.
What you will need to be successful
You will have a relevant bachelor's degree in engineering or science (Civil, Structural, Offshore Engineering). A Chartered engineer, registered professional engineer is preferred.
Experience matters as well. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in:
Offshore installation field with specific and demonstratable knowledge and experience in foundations (structural jackets with pin piles, suction buckets, gravity based structures)
Managing construction contractors
Development of installation engineering
Driving a positive safety culture and behaviours
You should be comfortable working in a dynamic and agile team environment with competing priorities, including understanding roles and responsibilities within interfacing teams. You should be able to develop collaborative working relationships and to influence project delivery teams to ensure that that the construction work integrates well into the overall project plan.
Who you will work with
Our new Gas and Low Carbon Energy entity is building a team of offshore wind project expertise based on a combination of existing bp employees with transferable skills, supplemented by hiring external expertise. You will be part of bp’s broader Projects organisation delivering all our major projects across bp. With respect to the joint venture, our partners EnBW are based in Hamburg, Germany, and have a track record for delivering offshore wind projects.
Successful candidates should be proactive communicators who can initiate interaction within the project team, connect with technical experts within the wider bp engineering family, and mentor engineers with less experience in offshore wind.
