Technical Verger We have an exciting new opportunity working within the Verging team. You will be responsible for the complex integrated sound, lighting, and live-streaming systems in the Cathedral to ensure high quality cover for worship in this interesting role, offering scope to progress your career. The Role As a Verger, your areas of focus will include the live-streaming of services, concerts, and events, but you will also support the Verging team in presenting the Cathedral and providing a welcome to all worshipers, visitors, and guests. Principal accountabilities include: • Ensuring that the various activities including services and events that take place in the Cathedral are run smoothly. • Ensuring that services of worship are set up correctly and as required so that the dignity of worship is upheld, and services run to time. • Participating in Cathedral services as appropriate • Leading on the live-streaming of services, events and other activities, using the Cathedral’s newly installed system. • Being the technical specialist for internal and external events within the vergers’ team. • Take the lead in training colleagues, volunteers, and Cathedral-wide staff in basic use of the systems. • Supporting the production of digital materials, working with the marketing team where appropriate to ensure digital content is of the highest standard. • Providing support for events that are run in the Cathedral. • Being vigilant in relation to Cathedral health & safety and security, ensuring that all areas accessible to the public are maintained in a safe and secure manner and that any hazards or defects are reported, so that it remains a safe environment in which to worship, visit and work. • Being a welcoming presence for out worshippers, volunteers, visitors, and staff About You To be successful in this role, you will: • Be able to work in a physically demanding role, as the position involves lots of standing, manual handling activities and the movement of furniture and other heavy objects. • Understand technology and in particular sound systems, using cameras, switching equipment and on-screen text and graphics, audio mixing equipment, lighting, and monitoring audio equipment. • Be able to perform routine video and audio equipment maintenance. • Be able to operate the portable equipment and expected to work in pre-production planning and production. Some experience either as a Verger or Technician (or within a similar role or environment) would be desirable but not essential. It is a requirement of this role that you are a communicant member of the Church of England. You will also be required undertake a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure Barring Services check and an enhanced reference check.
