Salary: £65-75,000 + fantastic benefits

We are looking for an exceptional Technical Manager to join our Global Client’s expanding team. This is a fabulous role for a true leader with inspirational people engagement skills to lead the full site technical agenda. Leading a large time of technical specialists you will understand the importance of creating a cohesive team that works for the greater good of the organisation. Leading a team of twenty you will know how to coach and develop a team that demonstrates excellence in all that they do.

The role

Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviours, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviour, which may lead to accidents.

Continually endorses the Quality Policy and assures conformance to all requirements of the Quality Management System.

Continually assesses and updates quality systems, procedures, methods and processes to assure all raw materials and processed products comply with established quality specifications and customer requirements.

Establishes and maintains a proactive in process HACCP system for all processed products with interactive involvement by Quality Staff.

Monitors and maintains the corrective and preventive action program for troubleshooting production concerns and customer product issues.

Implements and maintains a statistical analysis and process control program to continually manage and improve the quality of products.

In conjunction with Manufacturing Manager and Technical Service Manager prepares and updates all raw materials and finished goods quality release specifications.

Monitors and responds to customer complaints regarding quality of products and customer concerns.

Manages the Food Safety, GMP, and plant hygiene programs for compliance and notifies appropriate supervision if non-compliance is detected.

Ensures all quality records and systems are updated and meet European standards and requirements.

Oversees facility pest control program.

Prepares departmental budget to incorporate into the annual operating plan (AOP) and monitors and controls expenses to meet budget.

Manages customer, Quality, and Regulatory facility and Quality systems audits. Prepares for, coordinates, and oversees.

Audits and inspects third party toll packers to meet or exceed our HACCP and quality expectations.

Marginal Functions

Learns and understands lot traceability, product release and item transfers.

Attends and participates in the weekly senior managers operations meeting and daily stand-up meetings.

The person

Degree educated or equivalent Microbiology, Food Science or other related field.

Demonstrates a strong career trajectory in the field of technical and quality management (must have chilled and or short shelf life experience). Ideally in primary protein.

Inspirational leader with strong coaching skills

  • Ability lead audits with Suppliers, BRC etc to a positive outcome (pro-active approach)

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Creativity, self-motivated and innovative.

Willingness and ability to participate in and lead team problem solving activities.

Ability to understand and speak in technical terms and be able to challenge current processes & theories while forming solutions in a practical and technical manner.

Must be familiar working within a fast paced large scale environment

Knowledge of food science, HACCP, food processing technology, equipment, microbiology.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong computer skills and knowledge of statistical analysis – statistical process control.

Knowledge and understanding of complex quality control and quality assurance programs and concepts.

Working knowledge and basic understanding of food microbiology.

Strong technical and business writing skills.

Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from groups of managers employees and customers.

Solid analytical skills interpersonal skills.
