Senior I&C Engineer – Security Systems

Visit website

Be part of one of the most exciting and challenging projects in the UK, as we continue the rebirth of nuclear in the UK. Assystem, the second largest independent nuclear engineering company in the World, are expanding rapidly in the UK, and with the ever-growing need for energy transition, you can be a part of the continuous effort towards decarbonisation.

The project at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset is the first of its kind in the UK in over 20 years and one of the biggest construction projects globally. Bringing the plant to life is the job of the HPC Commissioning Programme which will lead the transition from construction to operation and we are currently recruiting exceptional people to join our I&C Commissioning Delivery team.

The HPC plant includes a variety of I&C technologies, both computerised and non-computerised, implementing systems that perform monitoring, control and protection functions for nuclear and conventional plant. You will be part of the team that prepares, supervises, performs, analyses and reports the thousands of commissioning tests that are required to deliver the evidence to demonstrate that all these systems fulfil their safety and functional requirements

The Role

The Senior I&C Engineer – systems and communications system will be a member of one of the five I&C Commissioning Delivery teams, reporting to an I&C Commissioning Manager.

The individual will play a key role in the commissioning team for the permanent Network and Security systems.

Secondee of the Commissioning manager, the Senior I&C Engineer will support all the different systems delivery falling under the responsibility of this team. He/she will be supported by Commissioning engineers for each of the sub-areas.

The main activities expected, based on the permanent network and security systems are:

For all systems:
Ability to understand and challenge the design, variations design changes and Factory Acceptance tests.
Commissioning work readiness following the Commissioning process: Depending on the contracts, either support commissioning engineers reviewing the tests procedures written by them or check and validate the tests procedures.
Provide an efficient dispatching of the commissioning tasks and systems into sub-systems. Ensure as much as possible time saving during tests and validations following the programme time scheduled.
Identify as early as possible potential additional resources needs (within the commissioning team or suppliers')
Escalate points to the commissioning manager.
Schedule commissioning activities on site with the support of the commissioning manager.
Organized and rigorous to lead a commissioning team of technician performing tests.
Report technical progress on the different sub areas to the commissioning manager.
Update KPIs for the progress of commissioning works, good communication, and challenge the potential change modifications.
Be part of interviews for further commissioning engineers to involve in the area.
Team player, with an ability to train beginners within the CCTV permanent system.

For the security systems:
Capability to evolve in the commissioning of a complex CCTV system.
Involvement at an earlier stage in the access control system by delivering temporary AACS systems for cabinets locking, technical room doors, etc. in various area of the field.
Access to the Security system design imply getting access to SNI information. The individual shall have the capability to get an SC Clearance as soon as he/she starts being involved in the project.
Witness FAT in England
Commissioning site activities
For network systems:
Capacity to support the project for one of the wider system deployed on site.
Challenge the time schedule to be able to deploy the network infrastructure on site as soon as possible, designing and using potentially temporary arrangement to reach programme targets.
Witness FAT in the area of Bristol.
Commissioning site activities.
For Level 3 systems:
Being involved in technical meetings with the technical lead of the project to clarify the scope and ensure consistency between contracts boundaries in both hardware and software purposes.
Witness different FAT abroad.
