We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join the team at Arch. This successful candidate will utilize a strong technical background to interface closely with a tight-knit team of engineers across a broad range of technical areas that provide managed services to internal global customers. The ideal candidate will have a balance of breadth across multiple database languages, depth, and expertise in select areas, and practical real-life experience solving very complex problems while maintaining patience and professionalism in the most critical moments. The incumbent operates independently on complex assignments involving the analysis of both business and regulatory requirements, as well as the analysis of the individual technical implementations to maximize the benefit to the business.The Senior Database Administrator manages databases through the entire product lifecycle. This role will configure and maintain database servers to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. As a technical subject matter expert, you will mentor Database Engineers, review existing and implement new solutions to meet business objectives. The incumbent will act as an internal team escalation point for database requests and issues. Travel up to 15% maybe be required based on project needs.Job Responsibilities• Ensures the highest levels of systems and database availability through best practices design and implementation• Enforces system and database configuration standards through documentation and automation for lower-level support teams• Translates high-level design documentation into low-level database design for implementation• Performs advanced technical analysis and recommends database purchases and upgrades as needed• Provides project coordination and writes documentation for technology implementations• Tracks issues and business requests, and researches broad-based solutions and new features that meet user needs• Provides third level technical support of core database and business systems; often requires management/coordination of outside vendors and internal subject matter experts• Investigates & diagnoses problems in assigned trouble tickets, as well as identifies and implements solutions• Communicates resolution back to team members and business users• Writes scripts/programs to automate builds, standardize deployments, patching and maintenance, configuration updates, access provisioning, and other database administration functions• Builds databases per specifications to meet availability and performance targets as outlined in service level agreements with business owners• Reviews database performance data and makes suggestions to improve overall performance, as well as forecasts future system needs to be based on trends• Follow all set procedures and policies about the Change Management systemRequired Skills/Experience• 8+ years of related enterprise database experience• Database management in both physical & virtual environments• Implement AlwaysOn Availability Groups, High Availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server (Log Shipping, Replication, and Mirroring)• Microsoft Azure SQL Databases, Managed Instances and Azure IaaS• Monitoring and performance tuning along with an understanding of how to read execution plans• Windows Server 2012 and later editions• Working with T-SQL, BCP, DTS, and SSIS development and Windows Servers• Knowledge and experience of deployment, automation and configuration management technologiesQualifications• Snowflake administration and data ingestion technologies, SnowSQL• Grid technologies, Data Guard RMAN for backup and recovery; OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) for monitoring and performance tuning • Oracle experience with 11g, 12c RAC in at least 2 node environment on Linux/AIX• Systems and Application Monitoring toolsEducation• Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field • Industry-specific training or designation a plusThe CompanyArch Insurance is a global insurer offering our clients superior coverage and service.
