Salary: £22,000.00 per annum Hours: Monday and Friday: 8 hours per day at £12 per hour Saturday (overtime): £15 per hour Working: 42 Weeks per annum Pension: Contributory pension scheme Clothing: Uniform Job Purpose: The Laundry and Housekeeping Assistant has an important role to play in the service of cleanliness of the School. The role involves working in the laundry with other laundry staff and to do some cleaning, as directed by the Domestic Services Manager. Main Duties and Responsibilities: • Handle all incoming items to the Laundry and sort for different treatments and washing temperatures in accordance with policies and procedures and washing instructions • Wash, dry, fold linens, keep all cupboards tidy and well stocked with adequate clean supplies, report any shortages and recommend when replacement stocks are required • Wash and dry all borders' clothing and iron school uniform blouses. • Ensure that all machines and equipment are in good working order, report defects and immediately withdraw from service any faulty equipment and report to Domestic Services Manager. • Put away pupils' clothing and email pupils if they do not regularly collect clean laundry. • Perform any combination of cleaning duties to maintain the School's high standard of cleanliness and order. • Comply with School's procedures at all times. • Carry out other ad hoc duties as requested by the Domestic Services Manager • Flexible approach to work hours-able to work occasionally outside of normal hours • Complete other documentation as required by the School's policies and procedures or requested by the Domestic Services Manager. • Carry out daily/weekly cleaning tasks as directed through the cleaning schedules, including areas outside of the laundry • Assist in the preparation of the School for special events and carry out any associated cleaning tasks required after. • To work cleanly effectively at all times, in line with the School Health and Safety Policy. To present yourself in such a manner that is not detrimental to the Housekeeping Department or the School. • Conduct yourself at all times in a professional way that is acceptable to your work colleagues, other School staff and the pupils. • Complete any training considered necessary to ensure that the departmental standard operating procedures can be performed safely, efficiently and effectively. • You will be required for this role to potentially lift heavy objects. • The post holder will ensure that the service adheres to and actively promotes the Equal Opportunities policy of the School. • The post holder will comply with all School Policies and Procedures. • Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the most recent Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, pupils and visitors. • Ensure confidentiality for any information obtained relating to staff, parents, pupils and the School. • On occasion, there may be times when the post holder will be required to work additional hours as directed by the Domestic Services Manager due to absence/sickness of other Housekeeping staff. Person Specification: Criteria /Requirements: Qualifications • Sound Basic Education Experience • Previous experience of working in a similar Housekeeping environment an advantage Knowledge • Good levels of literacy and numeracy skills Skills • Able to work on own initiative and communicate effectively. • Able to use a computer to send emails and ability to produce basic spreadsheets.
