Head of Health & Safety Location: Work from home and any of our offices in this Hybrid role. Contract: Permanent, full time Salary: £65,000 per annum plus car allowance of £4320 per annum As one of the largest and most respected property management companies in the country, the Residential Management Group portfolio spans over 110,000 households across the United Kingdom. We have an exciting career opportunity for a Head of Health & Safety who will oversee the Health and Safety Management System for the whole of Residential Management Group, including the Public Sector Housing Solutions Service (HSS) contract, and liaising with the parent company, Places for People (PfP), as required. The role allows you to Work from Home with travel to our offices as required, therefore it is beneficial to have good motorway access and be willing to travel. Key office locations are Hoddesdon Hertfordshire, Northwich Cheshire and Horseferry Road Victoria London so easy access to any of these is advantageous. The role holder must strive to ensure strict compliance with rules and regulations and that recommendations for improvement are acted upon by the company to promote a safe environment for clients and staff. The role is a strategic one, to develop RMG’s compliance with current, changing, or new legislation and guidance, ensuring commercial risks/benefits/costs are considered. It involves operational responsibility for the provision of advice and guidance as necessary. Head of Health & Safety Roles & Responsibilities include: • Manage the work of a small team of H&S professionals, including the Fire Safety Manager, providing a comprehensive management system of H&S Compliance to both RMG and Clients • An RMG subsidiary, Osterna Ltd, provides Fire Risk Assessments and advice to RMG’s clients. The Head of H&S will work with the Head of Osterna to interpret and agree standards to be applied by the team of assessors and give advice and guidance and maintain the standards to which the Team works • Develop and maintain a system of reporting, feedback and management information to ensure identified Health & Safety issues are acted upon in a timely way and that all stakeholders (Executive Team, PfP, HSS, Property Management Team, Back Office) are provided with appropriate and specific information/guidance from which decisions can be made • Attend PfP H&S Compliance Board and subject Working Groups to maintain a close working relationship, share best practice and develop new initiatives • Prepare Business Case or Proposals as and when required on the introduction of new H&S controls/initiatives • Identify training needs within the company which promotes Health and Safety compliance within property management and HSS • Manage an audit regime to ensure that contractors comply with Health & Safety rules, regulations and best practice in the exercise of their duties under contract to the company • Risk Management: Feed into RMG’s risk management process by identifying arising risks and providing proposals to mitigate. Thorough knowledge of the risks associated with Health & Safety and responsible for the exercise of effective control through the monitoring of Key Risk Indicators. Able to identify new risks emerging and responsible for staff awareness and the mechanism for reporting new risks/incidents which could bring detriment to the business, members of staff or to customers. • Maintain and build on the current certification by the British Safety Council under its Five Star Occupational Health and Safety regime • Establish a ‘gap analysis’ of Health & Safety Compliance and develop a plan to achieve a ‘best practice’ regime which addresses and mitigates risk to the company. • Point of reference for all complex issues involving Health & Safety within RMG • Proactive in the interpretation of planned and new Health & Safety/Fire regulation and the impact on the business • Establish a close working relationship with the property management side of the business such that the Health & Safety unit becomes an integral part of a well-run business The Head of Health & Safety will require: • Level 6 Health and Safety qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent. CMIOSH status or working towards is preferable. • Level 3 fire safety qualification such as the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management. • Substantial experience of Health & Safety compliance, preferably in the property sector • Expert knowledge of Health, Safety and Fire rules and regulations and their application to property management • Experience of managing a Health & Safety system (2/3 years) in a small to large size business, developing initiatives to promote compliance and managing/improving performance • Able to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of Health & Safety and Fire safety legislation, industry best practice, policy and procedures across a diverse risk profile.
