The Life Internal Audit Team is small, lovely and welcoming, they are keen to have someone like you in their team to participate and provide your valuable input regarding a variety of different audit related topics. The team is part of the wider UK Life Audit Team and they are responsible for the main growth areas, this consist of healthcare, annuities, equity release and a distribution subsidiary business.

Along with being part of a fantastic team, you will also be in a diverse role and given the opportunity to focus on key growth areas within Aviva UK Life. From focusing on areas key to Aviva’s strategy; linking risk and control matters; collaborating with the business; and using traditional and innovative audit approaches the Internal Audit function focuses on what matters to make things better for Aviva. As the Senior Audit Manager, you will support the development and lead the delivery of the audit plan through a deep and broad understanding of the risks facing the business for the area of responsibility including additional ad hoc/ bespoke audit work as requested.

Responsibilities in the role

  • Direct a portfolio of audit reviews and leading technical or complex reviews where appropriate and providing overall quality control on reviews in area of responsibility/portfolio
  • Ensure overall delivery is to the required standard; specifically, that assignments are focused on the business areas and that the programme of work remains aligned to the changing nature of Aviva’s business
  • Deliver and manage the timely production of high-quality concise audit issues, finding and audit reports
  • Oversee issue tracking conducted by the team
  • Liaise and build relationship with stakeholders and relationship management at a senior level within the business
  • Ensure audit engagement objectives are met
  • Ensure quality control in the portfolio of reviews in line with the audit methodology
  • Provide Committee reports – contribute to the production of reports to internal audits key stakeholders (e.g. Audit Committees, Risk Committees, and Board Committees etc) and through these influencing management actions to deliver a more effective controls framework
  • Identifying areas for improvement in the operation of the audit team
  • Work closely with and support junior colleagues
  • Contribute (and where appropriate leading) to wider IA initiatives and projects

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • Sustained experience in audit firm or consulting firm in the financial services department OR/AND insurance/ healthcare company or financial institution or regulation institution
  • Good knowledge of financial/risk/insurance/healthcare market related topics
  • Good experience of working within healthcare or annuity or equity release or distribution subsidiary
  • Experience in leading complex projects/reviews, leading small-medium teams and negotiation situations
  • Experience in managing the senior level relationships and influencing their behaviour
  • Ability to identify risk and measurement
  • Excellent audit skills and methodological application (planning, business analysis, risk and control evaluation, testing and reporting)

Qualification

  • Professional audit or accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, CIA or equivalent) or equivalent business experience required
  • CII or other insurance / asset management qualification required (desirable)
