An international, multi-site, leisure business with significant private equity backing seeks a Financial Controller. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller you will be responsible for leading a finance team of 3/4 and an additional 3 in the outsourced finance provider. This role would suit a qualified accountant with experience of working within a multi-site environment. Previous experience gained within a broad finance role is essential as is the ability to lead, mentor and develop a small team. Purpose of the role: Leading the management accounts team in the London office, the successful candidate will drive an efficient and accurate month-end and year-end close process, ensuring good visibility and insight over the group’s results. Working alongside the newly appointed Continental European Financial Controller, this individual will help to drive the finance function forwards at a moment of change and growth for the Group, ensuring that systems and processes are fit for purpose, that the team is firing on all cylinders, and that both internal and external stakeholders are communicated with in a timely and professional manner. Main Duties and Responsibilities • Responsible for completion of monthly management accounts process, analysing spend and comparing to budget and prior year, proposing adjustments as appropriate. Scope of work includes both the UK sites and the corporate head office. • Managing the management accounts and transactional team, including responsibility for appraisals, professional development etc. • Managing the relationship with the outsource service providers who support general ledger processing, and regulatory/VAT/PAYE compliance. • Ownership of the general ledger for the UK and Ireland, ensuring the accuracy of all accounting entries, and that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and controlled. • Oversight of transactional matters like accounts payable/receivable. • Contribution to preparation of business plans, ensuring that the detailed knowledge of transactions is captured in the budget process, allowing both more accurate budgeting and easier variance analysis. • Co-ownership of the chart of accounts and definition of accounting processes, liaising with the European Financial Controller to ensure systems and processes work well in all territories and comply with relevant accounting standards • Oversight and supervision of the team to manage the accruals/prepayments position, direct ownership of certain more complex balances (eg rent / IFRS16 etc) • Working closely with HR to manage finance aspects of payroll. Principle ownership of and analysis of staff costs for the business, including accruals for bonuses etc. • Co-ordination of compliance with VAT and PAYE reporting requirements, with support of external service providers. • Cash flow analysis and forecasting, treasury management, to ensure that the group’s cash position is understood, and funds are available as required to meet payment obligations • Key involvement with external audit and preparation of statutory accounts and corporate tax computations.
