Description Due to a forthcoming retirement, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join a long-established law firm. Should demanding yet realistic key performance indicators are achieved during the next two years there will be opportunities for further advancement. Applications are invited from applicants comfortable with business development and with a background in commercial litigation seeking to advance their career. OBJECTIVES: To provide a thorough knowledge of all aspects of commercial litigation. To develop strategic plans and deliver the department growth in line with the Company's objectives. To represent the department within the Company. To manage the department on a day-to-day basis. To undertake fee-earning work and provide a profitable contribution to the work of the department. To maintain relationships with staff and clients in accordance with the company's values. To comply with the company's policies. To meet individual and team performance targets as agreed from year-to-year. THE ROLE: All aspects of leadership and management for the Litigation/Dispute Resolution department. Conduct matters on behalf of clients in litigation/dispute resolution and related matters. Supervision of fee-earning work undertaken by junior members of the team. Management of support services for the team. Maintaining orderly and up-to-date files including electronic files and complying with the company's policies on file management. Completing time recording and other management records required by the company. Cross-referring work and clients within the company. Ensuring compliance with the company's policies, including Lexcel compliance. Financial control, including managing the cash flow for the team through efficient billing and payment procedures. Recognising fee-earning opportunities and developing those opportunities. EXPECTATIONS: Managing the department in accordance with company's business objectives. Being innovative, recognising and developing opportunities for the department and managing organisationally when required with minimal disruption to the business. Recognising and enabling business development opportunities. Planning growth in alignment with the commercial objectives of the company. Complying with the company's policies in the undertaking of its duties and assisting the directors and staff in achieving efficient management of work flows. Supporting the successful development of the company in line with its objectives. Delivering a high standard of client care. Networking and participation in the company's marketing activities. Cross referral of work within the company and department. Using and assisting in the development of relevant IT and case management systems for the department. Complying with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and Code of Conduct and the Money Laundering Regulations in accordance with current guidance from the SRA and the company. Identifying and meeting job related training and development targets. Any other matters reasonably required by the Directors. REQUIRED: Qualified solicitor Experience in Commercial Litigation Excellent communication and personal skills. A network of existing contacts. Ability to build the client base and help market the company's wider services. Ability to develop strategic plans for the department aligned with the business plans for the company. A creative and innovative approach to managing the growth and development of the department DESIRABLE: Experience of cross border/international work. Proven skills in business development and marketing. Leadership and management ability. SKILLS REQUIRED: Leadership and management. Smart appearance and manner. Self-motivated and clear thinking and able to carry out case work accurately and without supervision. Strong communication skills, both written and oral with clients, staff and others.
