About us East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations. About the role As a Democratic Services Officer you’ll play a key role in supporting the democratic process through helping elected Members to carry out their Council and Ward work. You will be responsible for the co-ordinating, servicing and minuting of various committees and meetings and provide advice and guidance on procedures to the chairman as required. You’ll also provide advice and support to district and Town/Parish councils on procedures and code of conduct queries and support the team to carry out the functions of the service as required. In return for your commitment, you’ll receive an excellent benefits package which includes: generous annual leave; flexi-time; and access to a Local Government Pension Scheme, salary sacrifice cycle scheme and employee assistance programme. In addition, you’ll also be encouraged to take advantage of our outstanding learning and development opportunities. About you You’ll have a good standard of education and be passionate and motivated with a helpful and friendly ‘can do’ attitude. You’ll also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be highly organised. Attention to detail is essential, along with a willingness to go the extra mile for our customers. You’ll be able to work on your own initiative to drive your workload forward and support the rest of the team where necessary. The nature of the role is pressurised so resilience and the ability to work under pressure are essential along with effective and accurate administration skills. A valid driving licence and your own car are essential (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).
