Description Data Scientist – Insurance / warranty provider Job Summary The post holder has a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of the company's data science strategy across a high-volume product portfolio. They will work as part of a Data Science team to deliver the pricing and marketing strategy using advanced machine learning techniques. They will take an active role in leading and supporting the team in developing the range of skills required to enable the delivery of industry leading intelligent systems. Responsibilities: • Evolve and continuously improve the company's data science models using advanced analytic and machine learning techniques. • Be a key contributor to the on-going development of the data science team, supporting other team members in developing the skills and knowledge required to deliver the strategy. • Contribute to the ongoing development of the overall data science strategy. • Deliver impactful and effective machine learning projects to support the commercial success of the business by applying advanced data science techniques. • Lead and support team members in ensuring the timely and successful delivery of key projects. • Be able to analyse, communicate and explain pricing & marketing recommendations in a way that will influence key stakeholders from across the business. • Monitor performance, profitability and competitor behaviour to help build and maintain pricing optimisation. • Ensure that pricing and marketing recommendations result in customers being treated fairly. • Being an innovative and motivated Senior Data Scientist consistently searching for new ideas for effectual data science projects. Profile Data Scientist – Insurance / warranty provider Skills: Essential • Excellent at data wrangling • High level of numerical proficiency and attention to detail. • Strong programming skills with production level proficiency of a least one language, preferably Python • A comprehensive knowledge of ML models and data science techniques. • Leading and delivering complex projects. • Ability to co-ordinate team members to work towards a common goal. • Excellent relationship management. • Innovative and pragmatic problem solver. • Able to explain complex data science theories to non-technical colleagues clearly and with authority. • Understanding and ability to actively implement statistical tests and analyses, Scripting and automation techniques for efficient model implementations. Desirable • Experience with machine learning tools such as DataRobot • Experience using price optimisation software such as Earnix • Background in applying machine learning to support marketing. Knowledge: Essential • Strong understanding of machine learning models and methodology. • Commercial acumen including some knowledge of insurance pricing and the key drivers of performance. • Working knowledge of AWS (or other cloud platforms) demonstrated through experience in previous roles. Desirable At least one of the following: • Detailed understanding of pricing optimisation. • Knowledge of Risk Modelling • Knowledge of machine learning applications within marketing. Experience: Essential • Pricing and/or marketing experience, ideally within the financial sector. • Previous machine learning modelling experience (with emphasis on predictive modelling) is crucial. Desirable • Working in fast paced, agile teams • Experience within the insurance industry. • Line management experience. Qualifications: Essential • Degree Level Desirable • MSc or equivalent in Computer Science, Statistics or Data Science or similar.
