I am a Singaporean expat and have just arrived in UK. Can I apply for a provisional driving license if I am on a work permit for three years? What procedures do I need to follow to get this provisional license.

Dear Expat Aunt,

I have a hard time adapting to my English wife’s family. They have very different customs and traditions, and expect me to adopt them totally. But it’s not a two-way street for them. They complain when I try to cook food from my home country, saying they’d rather have something ‘normal’. I love my wife, but her family can be so rude sometimes. We’re starting to fight about this and it is putting strain on our marriage. What should I do? :(

Dear Piercarla,

I like my job and my colleagues, and would like to socialise with them. But after work they only want to go to pubs. Drinking is not permitted in my religion and I do not want to spend time in bars. How can I make friends with my colleagues without compromising my beliefs?

Dear Expat Aunt,

I am a trailing spouse and moved to England two years ago. I have not been able to find a job and have also been unsuccessful in making friends despite having attended some expat events. I feel isolated socially and professionally, and end up venting all my frustrations on my husband. Please help me!

Dear Piercarla,

I want to find Spanish friends who like to travel and laugh, and who I can speak Spanish with. The British people I know are nice but I find talking English all the time very tiring and I miss speaking in my own language. Sometimes I just want to be able to unwind and have a proper conversation! Is there somewhere I can meet other people like me?

Dear Piercarla,

This is my third year in the UK and I still do not like this country. With the exception of my British husband, the people here are just so reserved and cut off. I have a couple of friends who I hang out with from time to time but it’s not enough. I really miss my friends and family members back home and wish we could move back to Greece. But I know it’s not possible – at least not in the near future. What can I do?
