Russia wants meticulous inquiry of deadly NATO Pakistan raid

Russia on Monday called for a "meticulous" investigation into a NATO raid in Pakistan that killed 24 soldiers, calling strikes that violate state sovereignty unacceptable.

"Leaders of NATO in Afghanistan should carry out a meticulous investigation into this incident," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar in a telephone call.

"Violations of state sovereignty, including in the cases of planning and carrying out anti-terrorist operations, are unacceptable," he said, according to a statement from his office.

Pakistan has vowed no more "business as usual" with the United States after the NATO strike that worsened US-Pakistani relations already in crisis after the killing in May of Osama bin Laden north of Islamabad by US special forces.

Washington has backed a full inquiry into Saturday's strike and sent its condolences and NATO voice regret over the "tragic, unintended" killings, though it did not issue a full apology.

Pakistan has shut vital supply routes to the 140,000 foreign troops serving in Afghanistan and ordered a review of its US alliance.
