About 300 people on Saturday called for the resignation of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and the dissolution of parliament in an authorised rally in central Moscow, an AFP photographer said.

Demonstrators, who met in Pushkin Square, a few hundred metres (yards) from the Kremlin, brandished banners reading "Putin must go", "Civil servants, stop stealing" and "We want free early elections".

Police detained three Left-wing Front opposition militants, Interfax news agency quoted its leader Sergei Udaltsov as saying, but Moscow police told Ria Novosti news agency that no arrests had been made.

Opposition rallies are generally banned in Moscow and police break up any protests immediately.
