Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Sunday ordered the creation of a special commission to resolve a mounting political crisis rocking the country as clashes raged in Kiev, the presidency said.

Yanukovych said that the commission would be created by national security council secretary Andriy Klyuyev and would include cabinet representatives, presidential administration officials as well as the opposition, the presidency said.

He also ordered that the first meeting with the opposition take place on Monday, a presidential statement added. The working group would "look at the issue of regulating the political crisis," the statement said, without giving further details.

The idea was first announced after a meeting between Yanukovych and boxing champion turned opposition leader Vitali Klitschko at the president's Mezhygirya residence outside Kiev.

"The president pledged to create on Monday morning a commission with representatives from the presidential administration, cabinet and opposition to find a solution to the crisis situation," Klitschko's party quoted the president as saying after the meeting.
