Libyan Prime Minister Baghdadi al-Mahmudi said he told Russian envoy Mikhail Margelov on Thursday that Moamer Kadhafi's departure from power is a "red line" that cannot be crossed.

"Of utmost concern to us in any dialogue is the unity of Libya," Mahmudi told a news conference in the Libyan capital.

"Moamer Kadhafi is the leader of this country (and that is) a red line" that cannot be crossed, he said. "This is what I told the Russian envoy."

Russian news agencies earlier quoted Margelov, the Africa envoy of President Dmitry Medvedev, as saying after talks with Libyan Foreign Minister Abdelati al-Obeidi in Tripoli that Kadhafi was not set to go.

"I spoke to the foreign minister of Libya, and the minister said that according to him, Kadhafi is not ready to leave," Margelov was quoted as saying.
