A French tourist drowned at sea off the coast of Tuscany in central Italy on Saturday evening after going for a swim despite the rough waves, ANSA news agency reported.
The 29-year-old man, known only by the initials A.O, disappeared after leaving his friends on Vada beach near Livorno to go for a swim by himself. He was found by coastguards an hour after he went missing, washed up on a nearby beach.
All attempts by the coastguard and emergency services to revive him failed.
A.O was the second person to die at sea in the Livorno area in two days.
On Friday morning a 33-year-old Russian woman died after going for a swim at Romito despite choppy waves and a strong wind, the report said.
