Café Teasers ordered to close

Popular tourist café ‘Teasers’ in the centre of Amsterdam has been ordered by city officials to close down. The café is famous for its scantily-clad waitresses who will dance on the tables for money. A spokesperson for the municipality said the venue not longer fits into the zoning plan for the Damrak, which runs from Central Station to Dam Square. Bibob, a national organisation that investigates allegations of malfide within the hospitality industry, has also issued a negative report about the café. The management has been given until 23 May to voluntarily close the business down.

Mass turnout for Army open days 

An estimated 100,000 people visited the Army open days at the Johannes Post barracks in Havelte at the weekend. They were treated parachute displays and demonstrations of the PzH 2000 howitzer and the Aladin unmanned reconnaissance plane. The field gun and Aladin will be used during the Dutch mission in Afghanistan.

Barney wins darts international

Dutch darts ace Raymond van Barneveld won the Topic International Darts League in Nijmegen. It took the title by beating English man Colin Lloyd 13-5  on Sunday. Van Barneveld – known as Barney – is heading to Plymouth in a fortnight for the play-offs in the Holsten Premier League competition.

ABN Amro One hits whale

While in southern waters, the participants of the Volvo Ocean Race mainly had to watch out for icebergs. The crew of sail boat ABN Amro One have discovered a new danger in the Atlantic during the crossing from New York to Britain: whales.  The dutch vessel collided with a whale on Sunday. The animal apparently escaped without injury, but one of the lee boards of the boat broke off. Fortunately the crew had a spare. ABN Amro One is just behind the race leader, Brazil 1.
