AMSTERDAM – The 1,200 volunteers who drive neighbourhood buses for the Arriva company in Noordoost-Brabant and the Veolia company in West-Brabant went on strike this morning. They are protesting the cutbacks by the bus companies.
Jan Kuppens, chairman of the drivers’ association, could not say how long the strike would last.
It is unclear how many passengers will be affected. The buses primarily provide transport for the elderly and schoolchildren. These people were warned on Wednesday that they would have to find alternative transport.
The drivers are upset that cutbacks have been made this year on the compensation they can claim for expenses and little extras, like the Christmas package.
