Balkenende: Brinkman’s comments ‘disrespectful’

THE HAGUE – Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende says the comments on the Antilles by Freedom Party PVV MP Hero Brinkman ‘disrespectful.’ Brinkman recently called the Antilles and Aruba a "corrupt nest of thieves."

Balkenende said after the cabinet meeting on Friday that he lamented the fact that consultation between the parliaments of the Netherlands, Antilles and Aruba was cancelled because of the "extremely ill-advised" comments.

The Antilles parliament refused Brinkman entry to the parliamentary buildings as a member of the Dutch delegation when he refused to rescind his comments.
