In his debut match as Ajax coach, Frank de Boer’s team has beaten AC Milan 0-2 in the Champions League. In the final group G match, the Amsterdammers have fulfilled their aim to secure a place in the Europa League after the winter break.

No goals were scored during the first half, but Ajax seemed to be back in form in the San Siro stadium. Nevertheless, Luis Suarez received his third yellow card in the group phase, which means he is suspended from playing in the next European match. As he will only be back in action at the end of January, he has been given three weeks holiday.

AC Milan goal keeper Marco Amelia was shown a yellow card for tackling Miralem Suleiman in what appeared to be a fake dive by the Ajax striker.

During the break the Dutch team got a stern talking to by the new coach. Ten minutes into the second half, Demy de Zeeuw opened the scoring putting Ajax in the lead. In the 66th minute, Toby Alderweireld put the second goal in the net to secure the match.

In yesterday’s Group A match, FC Twente drew 3-3 against Tottenham Hotspur at home. FC Twente will also play in the Europa League after the winter break.
