Tax authorities awarded ‘prize’ for bad service

AMSTERDAM – The tax authorities have been awarded the Web flop 2007 for failing to provide customised services. The forum called burger@overheid.nl hopes that the tax authorities, by being awarded this ‘incentive prize’, will improve the services they render to their clients. The forum announced this on Thursday.

The forum is of the opinion that the tax office is not making it easy for members of the public to contact the tax office. “A common means of communication such as e-mail is not being used,” the jury said. The forum also feels that the tax authorities should be more open to tax payers who do not fit the norm. The advice given by the tax office about the digital signature DigiD also leaves much to be desired.
