Discover the oldest city of the Netherlands at the International 'Nijmeegse Vierdaagse' March, nicknamed 'The Walk of the World' will start on Tuesday, 17 July. Even if you are not a walker, you can join the many festivities along the route.

The Nijmeegse vierdaagse (Nijmegen Four Days) is a walking achievement event of four consecutive days, in which annually 42,000 walkers take to the Dutch streets. During these days, people from all over the world come to Nijmegen to walk in and around the city and its beautiful wooded surroundings. Thousands of spectators cheer on the walkers along the route every day. After four days of walking, a glorious entry along the Via Gladiola awaits the walkers, who will then receive their well-deserved Nijmegen March medal.

Vierdaagsefeesten (Four Day Party)

Whether walker or spectator who can expect a display of festivities, alongside the 30, 40 and 50km routes, including dance, rock, classical, and jazz music, theatre performances and fine arts. Alongside this, food trucks will be present providing a wide range of delicious delicacies and refreshments. If this isn't your style, fine dining options are also available. Once you have re-fueled you can take to the dance floor, support your children in taking part in the kids run, and admire a spectacular fireworks display. Join the tail-end of the party to experience the finale of the walk!

History of the Four Day March

The Four Days March started out as an initiative of the Dutch army in 1909 and the Dutch Ministry of Defence. During the 100th Four Days Marches, vfonds will be promoting two of the projects it supports — the Liberation Route Europe and the National Liberation Museum in Groesbeek. Since it is the world’s biggest multi-day walking event, the Four Days Marches is seen as the prime example of sportsmanship and international bonding between military servicemen and women and civilians from many different countries. This also makes it a symbol of peace and freedom.

The route of the Four Days Marches will take you through several municipalities in the Nijmegen district. The surrounding local governments spend time and energy in offering walkers festive and musical support while passing through their town.
