This popular city beach lies between Beatrix Park and RAI Centre.
1087 VA Amsterdam
Located on IJburg, Blijburg is the closest beach to Amsterdam and offers a funky location both day and night during the summer season. During the day, there are plenty of kids making sandcastles and paddling, whilst nightlife includes DJs and musicians.
This large outdoor recreation area is named after the River Twiske and situated between Zaansted and Purmerend. The area includes several beaches, water sports, picnic areas and a water play area. It’s also easy to cycle to from Amsterdam centre.

This family-friendly beach is just 9 km north of Alkmaar and popular with surfers.
2042 GD Zaandvoort
There are regular buses from Centraal Station to Zandvoort, or if you prefer the train, it’s just a 30-minute train ride away. This beach is extremely popular and there’s a good selection of cafés and restaurants here. It is also surrounded by the Zuid-Kennermerland National Park for a change of scenery.
1976 GA IJmuiden
Belonging to the small town of IJmuiden, this beach is on the quieter side and popular with kite fliers.
Wijk aan Zee
Just down from IJmuiden, this is another local beach worth visiting. Kitesurfing paradise and a good choice of cafés.
Bloemendaal aan zee
Like Zandvoort, Bloemendaal is a popular beach location close to Amsterdam. The surrounding sand dunes are great for active kids and there’s a good selection of trendy cafés to choose from.
Parnassia aan zee
This is a peaceful beach in the lovely National Park de Kennermerduinen. It features a self-service bio restaurant.
Egmond aan zee
This former fishing village has a lovely beach, boulevard and also features the Jan van Speijk lighthouse. There are lots of little shops, restaurants and cafés in the village, and you can also explore the dunes, as it borders the Nature Reserve.
Further down the coast from Zaandvoort, Noordwijk is a family-friendly beach with a beach shuttle (so you can park for free outside Noordwijk). It’s a favourite among kitesurfers.
This is one of two beachside resorts in The Hague. Scheveningen is a lively resort with a long boulevard, which is home to Sea Life aquarium, museum ship Hr. MS Mercuur and the Scheveningen Museum (with lighthouse). There are also plenty of pavillions and terraces
Kijkduin is a little quieter and includes a children’s carousel (June–September) and Atlantis play boat.
