Wage costs in the Netherlands are well above EU average

The average worker costs a Dutch employer €31.30 an hour, taking taxes and employee premiums into account, according to German research group Destatis.

Destatis based its findings on figures from the European statistics office Eurostat.

The average cost of an EU worker is €23.50, so Dutch employers are paying 33% more. The Netherlands is sixth on the list just above Germany which has an average wage cost of €31.

Sweden has the highest wage costs at €41.90. Bulgaria is lowest, at just €3.70.
