Van Persie says Hitler salute accusations are absurd

Arsenal team captain Robin van Persie on Sunday tried to nip criticism of his alleged Hitler salute during Saturday’s match against Chelsea 5-3 in the bud.

The Dutch team captain tapped his shoulders and stretched out his arm toward the public after one of three goals he scored against Chelsea. He twittered it would be “completely absurd” to regard his alleged Hitler salute as anything else than “an expression of joy”

Mr Persie said it would be “insulting and absurd to suggest it meant anything else. Such a thing would never occur to me.”
