Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas has been awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement by the Venice Biennale of Architecture.

The citation says his work has focused on the relationship between people and space, creating ambitious goals for architecture. It praises him for influencing the world outside that of architecture.

Koolhaas is considered one of the most important of contemporary architects. Japan’s Kazuyo Sejima, who is directing the 12th Architecture Biennale says: “He creates buildings which stimulate the interaction between people.”
