THE HAGUE – The Healthcare Inspectorate (IGZ) and customs officials have intercepted thousands of dangerous "herbal pills." The capsules, produced in China, contain a high dose of erection-inducing chemicals. The IGZ announced this on Friday.

Taking the capsules could be dangerous since they contain 2.5 times the recommended maximum daily dosage for these substances. Such high doses have never been tested on humans. The IGZ says that taking the pills can lead to heart failure and damage to vision.

The IGZ has notified the EU member states, the US Federal Drug Administration (FDA), and Asian, Israeli and South African authorities about the find.

The names of the pills give the impression they are herbal remedies: Herb Vigour, Natural Vigour and China Vigour. Tests by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) indicate that the pills contain high doses of tadalafil, vardenafil and nor-acetildenafil.
