Thousands of Dutch nationals celebrated the New Year by diving into the cold water of the North Sea on Tuesday.

THE HAGUE - Thousands of Dutch nationals celebrated the New Year by diving into the cold water of the North Sea on Tuesday.

The biggest traditional New Year's dive event, organised by food company Unox, took place at noon on the North Sea beach of Scheveningen, near The Hague, with 10,000 participants.

A total of 25 New Year dives were organised in the North Sea as well as in tens of lakes spread around the country.
