On 29 November, the new The Hague International Centre (THIC) opens its door and starts to provide a special service to expats and highly-skilled migrants moving to The Hague.

With just one appointment, expats will be able to arrange their residence permit, registration in the Personal Records Database of the municipality and their Burgerservicenummer (BSN). These are all required to be allowed to work in the Netherlands.

Staff from the Immigration Office and Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) will work in the THIC in order to ease the process for expats and highly-skilled migrants to arrange their residence permit, registration in the Gemeentelijke Basisadministratie (GBA), or Personal Records Database of the municipality, and Burgerservicenummer. People qualifying for the ‘kennismigrantenregeling’ category can now arrange all their affairs at the THIC. Making an appointment is easy and can be done through the employer. At present 14 companies are participating in this programme.

According to Deputy Mayor Marjolein de Jong (International Affairs), ‘The Hague, the international city of peace and justice, has been welcoming its visitors for centuries. The International Centre, where the municipality is working closely together with other partners, will put this hospitality to practice. While enjoying a cup of coffee, people can arrange a whole range of affairs in one go.’

The new centre will include not only the Immigration Office and the IND but also an expat desk and ACCESS. The expat desk was created in 2006 and at the time was the first of its kind in the Netherlands. People can contact the expat desk with all their questions regarding municipal affairs like parking. ACCESS is non-profit organisation committed to supporting the international expatriate community with information about living and working in The Hague region.

Everyone is welcome in The Hague International Centre where they can get more information about the International City of Peace and Justice. One of the facilities available is an interactive screen with information about the various international institutions and organisations, companies and embassies located in The Hague.

The Hague International Centre is located in the Atrium of the City Hall, Spui 70. Opening hours are from Monday to Friday, 09h00-17h00.
