THE HAGUE – The consultations between the police unions and Home Affairs Minister Ter Horst about the new collective labour agreement (CAO) for police personnel have failed once again.

Both parties left the negotiating table without agreements on Tuesday. The unions have threatened strikes if the minister does not make a new proposal by noon Wednesday.

The unions and the ministry entered talks again on Tuesday evening with the intention of "coming to a solution." Talks are being held at the initiative of the unions after consultations last Saturday ran aground.

Finance Minister Bos said on Tuesday that there was no extra room in the budget to offer police a higher salary increase.
